Digable Planets fracture, cancel tour

digable-planets_myspace

Yesterday, Digable Planets announced that they were canceling an upcoming tour scheduled to begin this week. The reason? According to a MySpace bulletin, it’s because Ladybug decided to leave the group. No word yet on how this will affect Common Market, who were scheduled to open Digable Planets’ dates.

The full text of the bulletin is below. Warning…it’s written in all caps.

…UNFORTUNATELY THIS IS TRUE!!! THE 3 INSECTS FROM OUTER SPACE HAVE BEEN INFECTED LIKE EVERY OTHER GREAT GROUP IN HIP HOP HISTORY BY IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE PRINCIPLE MEMBERS…I KNOW THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF FANS UP AND DOWN THE EAST COAST THAT WILL BE DEVASTATED BY THIS NEWS…MANY CITIES WERE CLOSE TO BEING SOLD OUT…MARY ANN VIEIRA FORMERLY KNOWN AS LADYBUG HAS DECIDED AT THE LAST MINUTE THAT SHE WANTS TO WALK AWAY FROM THE GROUP AND NOT HONOR THIS TOUR…THE OTHER TWO MEMBERS HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO CANCEL THIS TOUR AND REGROUP…PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL PROMOTER OR TICKETMASTER FOR TICKET REFUNDS…WE THANK ALL OF YOU GUYS FOR YOUR LONGTIME SUPPORT AND LOVE OF THE DIGABLE PLANET SOUND…THE GROUP MEMBERS WILL GO THEIR SEPERATE WAYS BUT GROUP CREATOR AND PRODUCER BUTTERFLY ALONG WITH DOODLEBUG WILL CONTINUE TO COLLABORATE ON MUSIC AND IN THE NEAR FUTURE WILL ANNOUNCE THE INTRODUCTION OF A NEW MUSIC COLLECTIVE THAT THEY ARE PUTTING TOGETHER…THIS DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FROM THE LEGACY CREATED BY THE DIGABLE PLANETS IN 1993 WITH THE GROUND BREAKING SINGLE “REBIRTH OF SLICK(COOL LIKE DAT)” BUT IT DOES BRING US TO THE END OF AN ERA…REGRETFULLY YOURS THE DIGABLE PLANETS…

(March 24 update): Here’s what Common Market posted in a MySpace bulletin yesterday:

Due to unreconcilable differences among the members of Digable Planets, their tour has been canceled. We are very sorry to no be able to be on this tour.

We’re big fans of DP, and were really looking forward to the tour. We’re making other plans to get back out on the road and we’ll hopefully be announcing new tour dates soon.

Thank you all for your support, help and excitement. We truly appreciate you and believe everything happens for a reason.

I Want To Say Fuck You Too That First Racist, Dirt Under My Shoe ***** Who Commented Named Belle.
And The Second Dirt Under My Shoe ***** Who Commented Named J.

All The Cursing, Insults and Rude Remarks Towards Digable Planets Is Unnecessary. So I Thought I Hit You Back With A Few Insults. What Is You People’s Problem. What The Fuck Has Digable Planets Done To You.

That Is What Makes Me Hate This Generation Of Rap Fans Today. Just Cause A Tour Was Cancelled And You Paid A Measly 40 Bucks For Some Tickets That You Rich ***** Can Afford Doesn’t Give A Reason To Insult Anyone.
A Tour Being Cancelled Happens All The Time. Let Me Say It Again. This Type Of Shit Happens All The Time You Stupid Fucks.
If You Haven’t Walked A Mile In That Person Shoes You Don’t Have A Right To Say Shit.

Digable Planets Are Great People And I’ve Been A Fan Of These Cats Since They Started. It’s Unfortunate This Tour Had To Be Cancelled. They Had A Shit Load Of Tours Before This One And I Seen Them On Tour Before. I Didn’t Get Mad About This One Getting Cancelled, Shit Happens In Life What Can You Do. It’s Unfortunate They Disbanded. You Move On And Hope For Something Greater. And Hopefully Something Greater Will Happen Solo Or Still As A Group For Them. I Wish Them Luck On Future Endeavors.

And For You Mindless, Degenerate, And Ungrateful Fucks With Your Insults Towards Digable Planets. I Want To Say Fuck You And Burn In Hell You Stupid Yuppies And *****.

  8. Cee L. says:

One More Thing. To You People Who Had Something Bad To Say Towards Digable Planets. By Your Comments You People Sound Like Mindless Degenerate Fucks. Also Sounds Like You Motherfuckers Weren’t Digable Planet Fans Since The Beginning In The First Place. You Stupid Fucks Are Probably Some Young, Teenagers, or Old (I Don’t Know) Stupid Wealthy Schmucks Who Aren’t Really Hip Hops Fans Anyway. Just Some Band Wagoners.

Fuck You Again And Burn In Hell.

Props And Much Love To Digable Planets. I Bought All Your Albums When They First Came Out. From ‘Reachin’ To ‘Blowout Comb’, Etc. And I Still Listen To Them Like They Just Came Out Till’ This Day. I Was Listening To Ya’ll Shit Way Before The Single And Video For ‘Cool Like Dat’ Ever Came Out. So I Was True Fan Way Before MTV Played The Shit Out Of It Back In 1993.

    That’s It.

    Prosperity. One.

Hi Cee L., thanks for commenting. I’m still formulating a feedback policy that will allow anyone to write whatever is on their mind, as long as it doesn’t contain any racist, sexist or homophobic slurs. I admit that my edit of your comment (signified by the “*****”) wasn’t graceful, but hopefully it proves my point.

Again, thank you for taking the time to comment.
