The hip-hop era has spawned plenty of tall tales, but no story is more ridiculous than the “retiring” rapper. From Too Short (who proclaimed in 1996 that Gettin’ It would be his last album) to, most notoriously, Jay-Z, every MC aspires to be a hero of Jim Brown/Sandy Koufax stature, ready to leave at the top of their game. Sad that it never turns out that way. Lupe Fiasco, you’ve been warned.
So it comes as no surprise that the Alkaholiks have reunited for a North American run. When we last heard from the Liks in 2006, they had just completed a farewell tour in support of the somewhat mediocre Firewater. Hell, at least the Police waited two decades before cashing in on baby boomer nostalgia. It only took the Liks two years before launching the “Rehab” tour, a bid to “make room” in the wallets of true-school acolytes.
For real, though, who knows why J-Ro, E-Swift and Tash got back together? What’s certain is that the Alkaholiks were one of the greats, and they definitely know how to put on a show. Check out the itinerary below.
